چکیده

Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) is most important food legume in tropical regions of Africa. In Côte d'Ivoire, its cultivation neglected and carried out on small surfaces with a strong concentration North the country. The objective this study was to determine, addition sowing density, ideal number plants per hole for better cowpea production. Experimental design used completely randomized Fisher block three replications six treatments block. tested spacings are : 20 cm x 01 plant hole, 02 hole; 30 40 hole. Observations were made nine agronomic parameters (plant height, leaves, branches, span, fresh biomass, pods, weight dry pods grain weight. Results show that seeding densities significantly influence parameters. Thus, lowest (62500 plants/ha) corresponding 40cm spacing one gave best yields while highest (250000 20cm two all

Recent advances in cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L

After decades of research on cowpea, significant amount of omics datasets are available and useful in understanding the genetic relationship between Vigna unguiculata ssp. unguiculata and other species belonging to the same genus as well as its genetic variation. Besides, the development of genetic map allowed the chromosome localization of molecular markers associated with disease resistance, ...

Genetic Diversity of Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) Accession in Kenya Gene Bank Based on Simple Sequence Repeat Markers

Increased agricultural production is an urgent issue. Projected global population is 9 million people by mid of this century. Estimation projects death of 1 million people for lack of food quality (micronutrient deficit) and quantity (protein deficit). Majority of these people will be living in developing countries. Other global challenges include shrinking cultivable lands, salinity, and flood...

Toxic effects of Pb2+ on growth of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata).

A concentration as low as 1 microM lead (Pb) is highly toxic to plants, but previous studies have typically related plant growth to the total amount of Pb added to a solution. In the present experiment, the relative fresh mass of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) was reduced by 10% at a Pb2+ activity of 0.2 microM for the shoots and at a Pb2+ activity of 0.06 microM for the roots. The primary site of ...

Evaluation Effect of Different Level of Vermicompost and Manure on Physiological Parameters of Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.)

BACKGROUND: Vermicompost has many characteristics such as high porosity, ventilation and proper drainage, high moisture absorption and maintenance power, high uptake level for water and food stuffs, and its use in sustainable agriculture is very useful to improve soil porosity and thus more availability of nutrient elements required by plants. Manure plays an important role in ...
